What happens in a consultation? You will meet with attorney Stephanie Marzouk and possibly a paralegal from the firm. In that meeting, we take around one hour to discuss the immigration process with you, go through your history to look for any potential problems or special circumstances in your case, and answer any questions you may have.
Is there a consultation fee? Yes. The consultation costs $150 and can be done by phone or videoconference. If you prefer to meet in person, the cost is $250.
Why is there a consultation fee? Other attorneys give free consultations. In order to give good immigration advice, Stephanie feels it’s necessary to understand your entire situation. There is a fee because the attorney spends a significant amount of time with you asking detailed questions about your background, priorities, and concerns. She will give you information about the immigration process and outline a plan to accomplish your goals — or tell you if that is not possible, and why. Other attorneys may be offering a “consultation” that is only a short phone call or meeting, and you might not be able to get as much information.
I want to schedule a consultation, but I cannot pay the fee. Unfortunately we are unable to offer free consultations at this time. If you are looking for a free consultation, please try the City of Boston Office of Immigrant Advancement – they offer free consultations with immigration attorneys twice a month.
How can I make the most of my consultation? Please bring ALL your documents! If you have scheduled a phone/video consultation, please scan your documents in advance and provide them to us. Having the documents is so helpful in determining the best course of action for your case. The most useful documents include your passport, visa or entry stamps, I-94, Notice to Appear, I-20, and any documents you have received from the US government such as I-797, Request for Evidence, Notice of Intent to Deny, approvals, and denials. If you have ever been charged with a crime anywhere in the world, please bring as many documents from that case as possible. Also, please think of what questions you’d like to ask.
